Kho kho is one of the South African Indigenous Games and it is believed to have evolved in the state of Maharashtra, India where it was played on chariots called Rath. India was the first country to formalize and professionalize the game. In South Africa it is thought to have its origins in the South African Indian community. The game was and still is enthusiastically played by children of all communities across the country.
In South Africa First National Championships was held in 2003. Khokho is played across 9 provinces. From 2003-2013 it was played by Mix team that includes 6 males 6 females, total of 12 players. In a match we would play 5 males and 4 females, it was later changed where two teams were made.
The Objectives of KASA are to promote, co-ordinate and develop Khokho in the Provinces of South Africa without discrimination.
